BATON ROUGE, La. – Syracuse (4-8) fell to 16/16 LSU, 9-1, in game two of the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge on Friday night at Tiger Park. The Orange held the Tigers to one run through the first three innings before the hosts exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning and later.
Sophomores Stephanie Watts and Lisaira Daniels, and freshman Meghan Boston led the Orange offensively against the Tigers, each hitting .500 (1-for-2). Daniels recorded an RBI while Boston hit her third double of the season, which ranks second on the team.
Sophomore Jenna Caira pitched 5.0 innings for the Orange, striking out nine while allowing six runs. Junior Angie Sagnelli relieved Caira in the sixth inning, allowing two runs in 0.2 innings before the Tigers scored their ninth run to seal the victory.
Junior Rachel Helman scored SU's lone run in the top of the fifth inning, cutting into what was a three-run lead for the Tigers, before the hosts tacked on three runs in both the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the sixth innings.
Syracuse returns to Tiger Park tomorrow, Saturday, March 6 to face off against South Alabama at 11 a.m. Purple and Gold Tournament playoff seeds will be decided tomorrow, with playoffs beginning tomorrow afternoon.
