Orange Fall to Louisville in Series Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Orange softball team (18-21, 4-13) fell to No. 25 Louisville (39-10, 14-5) in six innings, 13-5. Kendall Gaunt and Vanessa Flores each hit home runs to put SU on the board, but Syracuse wasn't able to overcome the Cardinals' 10-run fifth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Gaunt's two-run home run at the top of the first inning gave the Orange an early lead in the series opener. Gaunt batted in Flores, who had doubled on the previous play.Â
Flores' solo home run in the top of the third inning extended Syracuse's lead, as Gabby Lantier and Jadyn Burney crossed home plate in the top of the fifth inning to add on to the score, 5-0. Â
Louisville found its groove in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Bri Despines hit a grand slam to cut into SU's lead. Five additional hits by the Cardinals put Louisville up 10-5. The Cardinals capped off the day as Ava Venturelli singled to bring three runners home and walk off Syracuse 13-5.Â
OF NOTEÂ
- Flores and Lantier each had two hits in the first game of the series.Â
- Flores and Gaunt recorded multi-RBI games, driving in two runners each.Â

Syracuse will take on the Cardinals in the second game of the three-game ACC series on Saturday, April 25. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
