Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse tennis team (10-2) beat Bucknell (2-5), 6-1, Sunday morning at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The win was Syracuse's fourth in a row, while Bucknell snapped a two-match win streak with the loss.
Senior transfer Eleanor Peters and junior Christina Tan led the way in a dominating singles round for the Orange. Each swept their Bucknell opponents with 6-0 sets to win their respective matches, with Peters playing at the No. 3 position and Tan at the No. 6. Freshman CC Sardinha battled through a tough match at the No. 1 spot against Bucknell's Tania Varela. Sardinha eventually fell short with final set results of 7-6 (7), 0-6 (10-7).
Sophomore Emily Harman outlasted Lauren Lucido at the No. 2 spot with scores of 6-3 and 6-4, while fellow sophomore Alessondra Parra found success at the No. 4 spot, defeating Bucknell's Lauren Rottkamp 6-0 and 6-3. Junior captain Simone Kalhorn took down Dumitrita Iepuras at the No. 5 spot, 6-2 and 7-5.
Sardinha and Kalhorn teamed up in doubles to handily beat Bucknell's pairing of Iepuras and Daria Tuzhikova at the No. 2 doubles spot with a score of 8-0. Peters and Parra secured the doubles point at the No. 3 spot, beating Bucknell's pairing of Courtney Casey and Carlin Calcaterra, 8-1. Harman and senior Chelsea Jones fell to Varela and Lucido at the No. 1 spot with a score of 8-7 (5).
The Orange will see their next action on Tuesday, March 9, when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Cornell at 5:30 p.m. The squad returns home on Thursday, March 11 for a matchup against Colgate at 4 p.m.
