SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team concluded its regular season schedule by defeating Temple, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The victory was a fitting way to send off the team's seniors, Chelsea Jones and Eleanor Peters, who were honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match.
With the latest victory, the squad has completed the most successful regular season in program history, compiling a 19-2 record. The win also sent the Orange into the postseason riding a 13-match win streak. Syracuse was also able to stay undefeated at home all season with a record of 9-0.
The Orange had another dominating day across the board, winning every match in both singles and doubles play. Freshman CC Sardinha continued her success at the No. 1 singles spot by easily defeating Temple's Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Emily Harman added her 14th singles victory of the season by beating Lucie Pazderova at the No. 2 spot with set scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Eleanor Peters made the most of her senior day by swiftly dropping Temple's Josephine Bergman, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot.
Junior Simone Kalhorn improved her singles record to 15-6 on the season after defeating May Johnson, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot. Alessondra Parra and Christina Tan also picked up singles victories over their Temple opponents with scores of 7-6(3), 6-3 and 4-6, 6-3 (10-5), respectively.
Doubles action was also very one-sided as Syracuse's No. 1 pairing of Harman and Sardinha blanked Temple's Rukavyshnykova and Pazderova, 8-0, in the top doubles match. Peters teamed up with Parra to defeat Bergman and Katharina Mittag at the No. 2 spot with a score of 8-3. Chelsea Jones celebrated her senior day by pairing up with Kalhorn to best Temple's Strangl and Johnson at the No. 3 spot with a score of 8-5.
The team has a short break before returning to the court for the BIG EAST Tournament, which is being held in South Bend, Ind. from April 22nd-25th. Syracuse has dominated its conference opponents this season, going a perfect 7-0 against BIG EAST teams in dual matches. Even more impressive is the fact that the Orange outscored its BIG EAST opponents 45-4 in conference matchups.
