
Orange to Make NCAA Debut at Maryland

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse (32-24) will make its first NCAA appearance when head to College Park, Md. for the NCAA Regional beginning on Friday, May 21. The Orange earned an automatic bid to the field of 64 after capturing the programs first BIG EAST Championship on Saturday.
Head coach Leigh Ross will lead Syracuse against No. 14 Oklahoma (43-10) Fordham (47-10) and host Maryland (33-22) in the double-elimination tournament. The winners of Friday's games will meet on Saturday, with the losers meeting in the losers bracket, the loser of Saturday's losers bracket game will be eliminated from tournament contention.
The Orange is one of 10 teams in the field which will be making its first NCAA appearance in 2010. The fifth-seeded Orange became the lowest seeded team to win the league title and recieve the conference's automatic bid. SU defeated No. 4 Villanova, No. 1 DePaul and No. 3 Louisville to claim the tournament title. Three other BIG EAST teams, including Notre Dame, DePaul and Louisville, received NCAA at-large bids.
