SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Morgan Nandin (North Syracuse, N.Y.) and senior Ryan Patton (Ooltewah, Tenn.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of May 3, 2010.
Nandin is the starting shortstop for the softball team. She has started all 49 games for the Orange this season, posting a .936 fielding percentage, 49 putouts and 97 assists. The North Syracuse native also has 14 hits, including a trio of doubles and nine runs on the season.
Nandin is a physical education major in the School of Education. The softball team wraps up its regular-season schedule with a three-game series against DePaul beginning Saturday, May 8 at the SU Softball Stadium at noon.
Patton is a member of the men's rowing team. He has rowed in the two seat of the varsity eight during the 2009-10 season, helping the Orange to a fifth-place ranking, the highest in program history. Patton helped SU to a second-place finish at the Windmere Cup in Seattle, Wash. over the weekend.
Patton is an accounting and finance major in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The rowing team is back in action when it visits Worchester, Mass. for the Eastern Sprints beginning May 16.
