Syracuse has been well represented in the NBA Summer League that is underway in Orlando. Former SU standouts Paul Harris, Demetris Nichols, Andy Rautins and Darryl Watkins have seen significant court time during the first week of play.
Harris has suited up for the Utah Jazz. He was the team's final cut last Fall despite entering camp as an undrafted player. He played in each of the first five summer league games for Utah. His best game to date included six points and three rebounds in an 85-56 victory against Philadelphia on July 9.
Nichols has seen court time with Portland and Utah. He played in four Utah games and had six points when the Jazz defeated the New Jersey Nets on July 8, 91-74. On July 11, Nichols wore the Portland uniform and had nine points in a victory.
Rautins, a second-round pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, made his summer-league debut on July 11. He started and contributed 11 points in a loss to Denver.
Like his former teammate Nichols, Watkins has played for two clubs. He has participated in one game with Dallas and another four with Indiana. He had three points and two rebounds when the Pacers defeated the Celtics, 86-85.
Jonny Flynn, who just finished his first NBA season, and 2010 first-round draft choice Wes Johnson are expected to see summer-league action with Minnesota Timberwolves.
