WATERLOO, Ontario – For the first time in program history three Orange student-athletes qualified for main-draw play in the USA Pro Tennis Development Program.
At the Waterloo Open Women's Tennis Challenger 25K in Ontario, Canada, Eleanor Peters continues to lead the Orange after winning her 33rd match as a pro. The victory improved her pro mark to 33-17 since graduating with a pre-law degree from Syracuse in May.
Following in Peters' footsteps was junior captain, Emily Harman. Both Peters and Harman won in three dramatic sets and the duo will compete in the main draw as a doubles team. Peters and Harman have reached the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of pro events as a team this summer. For Harman, this marks her first appearance in the WTA world rankings. For Peters this is the first time in her singles career that she entered the rankings.
At The Women's Hospital Classic 10K in Evansville, Ind., new freshman sensation, Maddie Kobelt, led the charge with massive kick serves and won her second-round match 6-0, 6-0. Later in the day, she won in doubles with teammate Alessondra Parra to move into the main draw. Kobelt, now 3-0 at the tournament, has four career pro victories. Kobelt is an Ohio high school state tennis champion and track star. She will bring two years of pro tour experience to the Orange this fall. Parra lost in the second round of singles qualifying on Tuesday in two sets.
