The 2010 volleyball season has arrived as the Orange travels to nearby Hamilton, N.Y. for the two-day three-match Colgate Tournament. SU opens tournament play against Fairfield on Friday, August 27 at 7 p.m. before facing Rhode Island and Colgate on Sunday at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
After posting its best overall record and BIG EAST finish since 2005 last season, Syracuse looks to build on that success in 2010. Head coach Jing Pu – currently in his 16th season at the helm – returns eight letterwinners from a year ago, including three starters, while welcoming three new additions to the squad.
Senior outside hitter Hayley Todd is the leading returner for the Orange, tallying 247 kills (2.13 kills/set) and 97 blocks (0.84 blocks/set) last season. SU also returns sophomore setter Laura Homann, who dished out 1,174 assists last season and earned a pair of BIG EAST Freshman of the Week nods.

Orange Picked to Finish Eighth
Syracuse was picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST preseason poll by the conference head coaches. Historically, in the past three seasons the Orange has finished at least three positions above its preseason prediction. Last season SU was picked to finish ninth according to the preseason poll and finished tied for fifth.
