SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse women's lacrosse team is back on the field this week as fall practice began on Monday. The Orange has five competition dates on its fall schedule in preparation for the 2011 season. Syracuse is coming off its second Final Four appearance in the last three years.
"We're trying to develop skills (during the fall season) and continue to have the players gain confidence in themselves," said Syracuse head coach Gary Gait. "We're putting the team together - developing roles and seeing who plays in what position. We will put it all together and prepare ourselves for the preseason in January."
Syracuse faces Navy and George Washington in Annapolis, Md. on Oct. 2 before taking on North Carolina on Oct. 3. The Orange will host a tournament on Oct. 9 where it will face Cornell, Cortland and Canisius. After playing Delaware at Radnor High School in Radnor, Pa. on Oct. 16, Syracuse ends the fall season at the Princeton Tournament where it will face national powers Northwestern, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Florida.
Syracuse ended the 2010 season with a 15-7 overall record and advanced to the Final Four for the second time in the last three years. The 15 victories are the second-highest single-season total in school history. The Orange became just the second unseeded team to advance to the national semifinals since 2005.
