Junior outside hitter Erin Little notched a career-best 20 kills as Syracuse (14-0) defeated Louisiana-Monroe (0-7) in straight sets on Friday afternoon in the first round of the Kent State Mizuno Open. The Orange has now one its last eight matches by sweeps, going 27-0 since Sept. 3.
Little - who returned to action last weekend after missing the teams first seven matches due to an ankle injury - led all hitters with 20 kills, hitting .548 with five digs. Freshman middle blocker Lindsay McCabe was second on the team with nine kills and a match-best .600 hitting percentage with three blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Samantha Hinz and junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre added five kills each, with Lefebvre chipping in 16 digs. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Clarey added four kills while sophomore Laura Homann directed the attack with 27 assists.
Defensively, junior libero Ashley Williams set the tone with a match-best 20 digs while senior defensive specialist Sarah Hayes and sophomore defensive specialist Zoe Guzman each added five.
The Orange resumes Kent State Mizuno Open play against Duquesne and Kent State tomorrow, Saturday, September 18.
