
Win Streak Continues at St. John's

NEW YORK - Junior Kris Joseph went 8-11 from the floor and finished with 18 points as 4/4 Syracuse (17-0, 4-0) outlasted St. John's (10-5, 3-2), 76-59, on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. Syracuse earned its 1,800th win in program history. Head coach Jim Boeheim has been at the helm for 856 of those wins during his tenure.
Rick Jackson turned in a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds to surpass the 1,000 point mark in his career. The senior forward now has 1,009 points. He also added two blocks, three steals and a trio of assists in the win.
Sophomore guard Brandon Triche had eight of SU's first 10 points in the second half to give the Orange a 43-31 lead at the 15:40 mark. Two consecutive alley-oops by Joseph increased Syracuse's lead to 52-35.
SU led by as much as 21 points during the second half. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch but Syracuse outlasted the Red Storm. Junior Scoop Jardine had nine second half points to help the Orange put the game out of reach for St. John's.
Both teams got off to a slow start on the offensive end of the floor. Freshman Dion Waiters hit a three-pointer at the 13:26 mark to give SU its first lead of the night 5-4. The Red Storm answered with a 11-2 run to take a 15-7 lead with 9:02 to play in the first half. The Orange responded with 10 unanswered points to pull regain the lead, 19-17 at the 6:32 mark.
Syracuse shot its way out of out of a 3-13 shooting slump and hit seven consecutive shots. The Orange owned a 25-18 lead, but back-to-back threes by St. John's Dwight Hardy cut SU's lead to one, 25-24, with 3:11 to play in the opening stanza. Syracuse went on a 10-0 run to close the half and take its largest lead of game, 35-24.
SU shot 31-54 (.574) from the floor, including 9-20 (.450) from three point range. The Orange held the Red Storm to 21-57 (.368) shooting overall and allowed just two three pointers. The Red Storm was led by Justin Brownlee's 13 points.
Nine players scored for the Orange and 16 of SU's points came off the bench. Triche finished with 15 points, while Jardine had 14. Both guards dished out four assists for the Orange.
