SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Despite four players in double-figures, 9/10 Syracuse (18-3, 5-3) was handed its third consecutive BIG EAST loss by Seton Hall (9-12, 3-6), 90-68, on Tuesday at the Carrier Dome.
Senior Rick Jackson recorded his 13th double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson also registered six blocked shots. Junior Kris Joseph had a team-high 17 points, while Scoop Jardine and Brandon Triche added 11 apiece.
The Orange shot a season-low 26-72 (.361) from the floor overall and hit 5-of-21 three point attempts. Seton Hall was 33-61 (.541) from the field and hit 10-of-17 (.588) shots from long range.
Seton Hall went 7-7 from the floor out of the gates and held a 19-11 lead at the 15:09 mark of the first half. A Jordan Theodore jumper with 12:54 remaining in the half gave the Pirates its first double-digit lead of the night, 23-13. Four consecutive points by Jackson cut Seton Hall's lead to seven, 26-19.
The Pirates responded with three straight three-pointers to produce its largest lead of the half, 37-23, with 3:49 to play. Seton Hall held a 43-30 advantage at the break.
The Pirates scored the first seven points of the second half and led 50-30 at the 16:35 mark. A three-pointer by Jardine ended SU's four and a half minute scoring drought. The two teams traded baskets but the Orange could not manage to swing the momentum in its favor.
Joseph scored five consecutive points to cut the Pirates lead to 17, 65-48, with 7:56 remaining in regulation. Seton Hall would not let the Orange make a comeback and took a 74-50 lead with 6:11 to play. The Pirates led by as much as 27, 86-59, with 1:20 left on the clock.
The Orange outrebounded the Pirates on the offensive glass, 20-13, but were edged 43-38 overall in rebounds.
Syracuse will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face Marquette on Saturday, January 29 at 3 p.m. SU fans can catch the Orange against the Golden Eagles on ESPNU.
