QUEENS, N.Y. – Lindsay McCabe had 11 kills and seven blocks to help the Syracuse University volleyball team (10-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) sweep St. John's on Saturday at Carnesecca Arena.

McCabe hit an efficient .529 on the afternoon as she connected on 11 of her 17 attempts. She also raised her blocks per set average to 1.35 with one solo block and six block assists.

With the two teams tied in the first frame at 10 apiece, SU surged ahead with back-to-back kills from McCabe and Sam Hinz, and never relinquished the lead. Andrea Fisher would wrap up the frame with one of her nine spikes to give Syracuse a 25-20 first set victory.

The Orange rallied in the second as SU trailed 17-14 but used a 7-1 spurt to seize control at 21-18. McCabe ended the set with a kill and gave the Orange set two, 25-22.

The third set was once again closely contest throughout, but tied at 15 a block by McCabe and Laura Homann gave SU the lead which the Orange held onto. Syracuse won the third set 25-22 as well and notched its first conference win.

Fisher and Hinz each contributed nine kills, while Erin Little had eight and Noemie Lefebvre had seven kills and a team-high 13 digs.

“It was nice to get a win and get back on track today,” assistant coach Kelly Morrisroe said. “I am really proud of the way we adjusted to the changes St. John's made to its lineup.”
