SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's soccer team will play its third consecutive game against a ranked opponent when it takes on No. 11 USF on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the SU Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free and live video of the game is available on Orange All Access. The first 150 fans in the student section will receive a free pair of sunglasses.
Syracuse enters the match with a 2-8-1 overall record and a mark of 0-3-1 in conference play. In the team's last game, the Orange lost 2-1 to No. 21 St. John's on Wednesday, Oct. 12. That day, USF defeated DePaul, 2-0, in Tampa, Fla. With the win, the Bulls improved their overall record to 8-2-2 and 3-0-1 in the BIG EAST.
ROYDHOUSE TALLIES ANOTHER
Senior Nick Roydhouse recorded his third goal of the season Wednesday against No. 21 St. John's. After a Red Storm foul, Roydhouse lined up for a free kick just outside the box. He capitalized on the opportunity to knot the score at 1-1 in the 80th minute.
The senior captain has played every minute this season for SU. He leads the team in scoring with eight points (three goals, two assists) on the year.
OVER 1,000 AT THE SU SOCCER STADIUM
A crowd of 1,327 was in attendance at the SU Soccer Stadium to watch Syracuse open BIG EAST play against Marquette on Sept. 24. The crowd was the fifth-largest in SU Soccer Stadium history. It also marked the 18th time a crowd of over 1,000 fans was on hand since the stadium opened in 1996.
Saturday night versus USF, Syracuse is attempting to break the attendance record at the SU Soccer Stadium. The all-time stadium record is 1,493 set on Oct. 5, 1996 against Notre Dame.
Last season, the Orange averaged 839 fans in their seven home matches. Syracuse has posted an average home attendance of at least 800 the last four seasons.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
USF has an overall record of 8-2-2 and a 3-0-1 mark in conference action. The team is ranked 11th in the most recent NSCAA/adidas National Poll. After not appearing in the preseason rankings, the Bulls have been featured in the poll every week since.
In their last game, USF defeated BIG EAST Red Division foe DePaul, 2-0. Freshman Wesley Charpie scored the game-winner for the Bulls.
Junior Dom Dwyer leads USF in scoring. The London native has 11 goals on the season, which leads the BIG EAST. Graduate student Chris Blais has played every game between the posts. Blais has 43 saves, a 0.96 goals-against average, and has registered five clean sheets on the year.
George Kiefer enters his 10th season as the head coach of the Bulls. Kiefer's career record stands at 80-43-16.
THE SERIES AGAINST USF
Saturday's meeting is the seventh between Syracuse and USF. The Bulls currently hold a slight edge in the all-time series, 3-2-1.
The two schools have met every season since USF joined the BIG EAST. The first matchup between the two teams went Syracuse's way, as the Orange recorded 1-0 victory on October 9, 2005.
Last season, the two squads squared off in Tampa. The Bulls had their way in that match, winning 4-0.
UP NEXT
