Tournament Bound Orange Hosts #7 Marquette in Home Finale

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse hosts No. 7 Marquette in its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament with a dramatic victory against South Florida coupled with Providence's loss on Friday.
Syracuse (7-5-3, 6-3) is third in the league's American Division. Marquette (14-2, 7-1) and West Virginia are tied for first place in the division. The top three seeds from each division earn a bye to the tournament quarterfinals.
Sunday's game will be the final regular-season home game for Carly Lenger and Casey Ramirez. Both will be honored in pregame ceremony.
Members of the Orange will be signing autographs following the game. Admission is free.
THE SERIES
Sunday's game at the SU Soccer Stadium marks the seventh meeting between Syracuse and Marquette. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series, 5-0-1. Five of the six match-ups have been decided by one goal or less.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Marquette features a consistent and potent attack on both sides of the ball, leading the BIG EAST in goals scored (44) and goals allowed (12). Maegan Kelly highlights the MU scoring threat. Kelly's 12 als and 33 points are team-best and conference-best marks. Natalie Kulla starts in goal for the Golden Eagles. Kulla has grabbed 29 saves this season, and her goals against average (0.73) is leads the BIG EAST.
WIN NUMBER SEVEN AND COUNTING
The Orange recorded its seventh win of the season against South Florida. It marks the most victories in a season for SU since head coach Phil Wheddon took over the helm of the program prior to the 2008 season. The last time the Orange won seven matches in a season was the 2007 campaign. That season Syracuse posted a record of 7-8-4.
