Men's Crew Begins Season At Historic Head of the Charles Regatta

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For the second year in a row, the Syracuse University men's rowing team begins its season at the storied Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. Established in 1965, the Head of the Charles is the largest two-day regatta in the world. It attracts more than 8,000 athletes from around the globe and features 55 different race events.

The Orange will enter one boat in the regatta as Syracuse's varsity eight crew takes to the water for the championship eights race on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2:45 p.m.

Led by senior coxswain Isaac Budmen, SU's boat of four seniors, two juniors and two sophomores will face competition from 33 national and international crews, including several U.S. collegiate boats. Brown, Cal, Cornell, Georgetown and Harvard are just a few of the colleges and universities with entries in the championship eights field.

Sunday's race begins at Boston University's boathouse and crews almost immediately travel under the combination of a railroad trestle bridge and the BU Bridge. Boats then proceed through five triple-arch bridges to the finish line approximately three miles upstream.

Head coach Dave Reischman is in his 10th season leading the Syracuse program. Under his direction, the Orange has established itself as one of the fastest crews in the country, posting three straight top-10 team finishes at the annual IRA Regatta.
