CAIRA LEADS CANADA TO SILVER MEDAL AT PAN AMERICAN GAMES

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Syracuse pitcher Jenna Caira once again shined on the international stage as she led the Canadian national softball team to a silver medal at the Pan American Games.
Caira finished the games as the tournament's strikeout leader, recording 25 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of action. She had a 4-1 record and tallied a 1.40 ERA, which was a team-best and third amongst pitchers with over 15 innings of work.
Caira registered two victories before playoff competition was underway in Guadalajara, recording a six-inning shutout triumph versus Venezuela and a four-hit, two-run victory against Puerto Rico.
The Red and White advanced to face Venezuela in the playoff round, where Caira produced a six strikeout performance while surrendering one run to help Canada earn a mercy rule victory. Caira continued her dominating streak in the semifinals against Cuba, tossing a six-inning gem, recording eight strikeouts and allowing no runs.
Canada faced the United States in the finals of the tournament and the Americans won the gold medal with an 11-1 victory.
SU teammates Lisaira and Shirley Daniels helped the Puerto Rican national team to a 2-5 record at the games.
