PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Syracuse goes for its fourth consecutive victory when it heads to Pittsburgh, Pa. to face the Panthers on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Syracuse enters the game with a 5-4-3 record, 4-2 in the BIG EAST, while Pitt is 1-9-4 overall, 0-4-2 in conference action.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Pittsburgh will meet for the 14th time at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Friday. The Orange leads the all-time series, 7-3-3. SU has faced the Panthers each year since the program's inception except 1999 and 2001. After winning the first six games of the series, the Orange has only recorded one victory against Pitt in seven tries. The lone SU win during that span was a 1-0 victory at the SU Soccer Stadium in 2008. The Panthers are in the midst of a three \-game losing streak. Their last game was a 6-0 loss to the Georgetown Hoyas.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Ashley Cuba is the Panthers' leading scorer, recording 10 points on five goals. Katelyn Ruhe has tallied a team-high three assists, as well as one goal for Pittsburgh. Ruhe, along with Alyssa Meier, Katheryn Kunugi and Caroline Keefer, have started every game for the Panthers. Kristina Rioux and Nicole D'Agostino have shared the goalkeeping duties during the 2011 campaign. Rioux leads the BIG EAST with 79 saves, and has posted conference-best 6.58 saves per game.
ON A ROLL
Syracuse has enjoyed incredible success in the past two weeks. With consecutive wins against Villanova, Seton Hall and Rutgers, the Orange has its first three-game winning streak against BIG EAST opponents since 1999. Syracuse also has four wins in the conference, which is its highest since the league began divisional play in 1999. The Orange has now won two BIG EAST road games, the most since 2005.
OFFENSIVE BREAKTHROUGH
The Orange's offensive firepower was on full display during the wins against Seton Hall and Rutgers last week. Syracuse scored four goals against the Pirates, a season-high, and two versus the Scarlet Knights. The four goals tie the most goals SU has ever scored against a BIG EAST opponent, dating back to a 4-0 victory versus Seton Hall in 2001.
BALANCED ATTACK
With Casey Ramirez, Jasmine Watkins and Amanda Hamilton all tallying their first goals of the season last weekend, Syracuse now has enjoyed goals from nine different student-athletes during the 2011 slate. It is the highest number of goal scorers for the Orange since the 2007 season, and just three shy of the program's highest, 12, which was set during the 2000 and 2004 seasons.
