LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Orange men's soccer team will travel to Kentucky to play 2010 national runner-up No. 11 Louisville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
Both sides are seeking their first conference victory. SU enters the match with an overall record of 2-7-0 and a mark of 0-2-0 in conference play. The Orange lost 2-1 in double overtime at Pittsburgh on Oct. 1 in its second BIG EAST game. Louisville holds an overall record of 7-3-0 and a BIG EAST record of 0-2-0. On Oct. 5, the Cardinals defeated No. 10 Indiana, 3-2, in overtime in their last non-conference match of the regular season.
CLARK COLLECTS SECOND OF THE SEASON
In Syracuse's last game, at Pittsburgh, junior Louis Clark scored the Orange's lone tally. Clark collected a cross from junior Ted Cribley and to give SU a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute. It was Clark's second of the season. Clark tallied his first career goal in the overtime victory against American.
The junior forward is currently tied for eighth in the BIG EAST with SU senior Dan Summers in shots per game, averaging 3.0 per contest.
Clark came to Syracuse after playing at Ashland University in Ohio last season. There, Clark led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in goals with 15. He was named to the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region Second Team and 2010 All-GLIAC First Team.
ORANGE BEGINS TOUGH STRECH
On Saturday, Syracuse will begin its toughest stretch of the 2011 regular season. Over the next three games, Syracuse will play three teams ranked in this week's NSCAA/adidas National Poll. The team will face No. 11 Louisville, No. 9 St. John's, and No. 17 USF in its next three matches. It marks the most consecutive games played against ranked opponents for Syracuse in three years. In 2008, SU played five matches in a row against ranked teams, going 1-3-1 in that stretch.
The Orange has played one ranked opponent already this season. The team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to No. 16 New Mexico at the University of Akron Tournament on Sept. 18.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Through 10 games, Louisville has an overall record of 7-3-0 and 0-2-0 mark in BIG EAST play. In their last match, the Cardinals won 3-2 in overtime at No. 10 Indiana. Senior Kenney Walker led the team with two goals in the match, including the game-winner.
In the latest NSCAA/adidas National Poll, Louisville is ranked No. 11 in the country. The Cardinals have been ranked as high as No. 1 this season, claiming the top spot in the preseason and Week 1 polls.
Senior Colin Rolfe leads the team in scoring with 10 points (three goals, four assists) on the year. Last season, Rolfe was the second runner-up for the Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best player in NCAA Division I soccer. Redshirt senior Andre Boudreaux has started every game in goal for the Cardinals the past three seasons. This year, Boudreaux has made 29 saves and holds a 0.79 goals-against average.
Ken Lolla has been the head coach of the Cardinals for the past five years. Prior to Louisville, Lolla served as the head coach at Akron. The Brick, N.J. native holds an overall record of 275-115-44.
THE SERIES AGAINST LOUISVILLE
Saturday's match will be the seventh between Syracuse and Louisville. The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 4-2.
All seven previous pairings have come since Louisville joined the BIG EAST in 2005. The visiting Orange won the first meeting between the two schools, 2-1, in double overtime on Oct. 22, 2005.
Last season, the second-ranked Cardinals handed Syracuse a 2-1 loss in the Orange's home finale at the SU Soccer Stadium. Nick Roydhouse recorded an assist on the team's lone goal.

Syracuse will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when it hosts No. 9 St. John's. Game time is 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
