SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 5/5 Syracuse (2-0) looks to advance to the semifinals of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tipoff when it takes on Albany (1-1) on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The Orange advanced to the quarterfinals with a 92-56 victory against Manhattan on Monday, while the Great Danes defeated Brown, 77-68 in the opening round.
Prior to the Syracuse-Albany contest, Manhattan and Brown will meet at 4 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN3. Tickets for Tuesday's game are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office. Fans can follow the action on the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). The audio stream of the broadcast will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. MOVING UP THE CHARTS
With four assists in the first two games senior Scoop Jardine has climbed to seventh place on Syracuse's all-time assists record list. Jardine has dished out 442 assists in his career, moving him past Jonny Flynn on the career ledger. Flynn had 439 assists in 2007-08.
WAITERS SPARKS THE ORANGE
Sophomore Dion Waiters has provided a spark off the bench in the first two contests of the 2011-12 season. He is tied with senior Kris Joseph for the team top scoring honors, averaging 15.5 points per game. Waiters also leads the team with seven assists and is tied for second with four steals. Last season, he played in 34 games and averaged 6.6 points per contest.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse defeated Manhattan, 92-56, in the opening round of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tipoff on Monday, November 14. Senior Kris Joseph scored 15 points and became the 55th player in the program's history to score 1,000 career points.
The Orange used a 24-3 spurt to take a 32-11 lead. Joseph had seven points during the run, while Dion Waiters had six and Brandon Triche added five. Triche led all scorers with 12 points in the first half as Syracuse held a 52-26 lead at intermission.
Although it took nearly seven minutes for the Orange to record its first field goal of the second half, SU was 9-for-11 from the free-throw line during that span. It built its largest lead of 75-35 with 9:33 remaining in the game as it went on to the 36-oint victory.
Waiters finished with 17 points, while James Southerland added 15. Fab Melo also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points to go along with a career-high nine rebounds and four blocks.
SCOUTING ALBANY
Albany held off a late Brown rally to record a 77-68 victory on Monday. Gerardo Suero netted a team-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Logan Aronhalt posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Head coach Will Brown is in his 11th season at the helm of the Great Danes program. He has led Albany to two conference championships and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series against Albany, 7-0. The Orange defeated the Great Danes, 75-43, in the last contest between the two teams in 2009.
