Storylines Vs. The Buckeyes
Through ten games, Ohio State holds an overall record of 5-4-1, with a 5-2-1 mark in WCHA play. The Buckeyes are currently in the midst of a minor skid, having lost back-to-back games to No. 1 Wisconsin. The Buckeyes' offensive attack has produced 25 goals throughout the squad's ten games this season. That attack is led by senior forward Laura McIntosh, who has leads the team in assists (six) and points (10).
Natalie Spooner has seven goals and two assists in eight games this season. She is 11th in the nation in goals per game (0.88), while Ally Tarr is third for second in the country with two game-winning goals. Ohio State has relied on a tandem of goalies this season, with sophomore Lisa Steffes starting six games and redshirt sophomore Chelsea Knapp starting four for the Buckeyes. Steffes and Knapp's time between the pipes has combined to produce a 3.27 goals-against-average and .882 save percentage.
Nate Handrahan enters his first season as the head coach of the Buckeyes. Handrahan takes over at Ohio State after spending five years as Robert Morris women's ice hockey head coach. Handrahan has a career mark of 4-5-3 against the Orange while with the Colonials.
Up Next: Rensselaer
Following the Thanksgiving break, Syracuse will end November with two games at Rensselaer on Nov. 25-26. The Orange is 2-1-1 all-time against the Engineers, who are 10302 on the young season. Last season against RPI, SU dropped a 2-1 contest at home before responding with a 2-2 draw in the final game of the weekend.
Scharfe Riding Four-Game Scoring Streak
Sophomore forward Margot Scharfe has five points in her last four games, including three goals. The Toronto, Ont. native is tied for the team lead in points with seven (four goals, three assists). She has 12 goals and 10 assists through one-plus seasons at SU.
Allie LaCombe Providing An Offensive Spark
After starting the season with one point in her first seven games, freshman forward Allie LaCombe's offense has come alive in the team's last five games. The Eden Prarie, Minn. native has six points (four goals, two assists) in her last five games. LaCombe is tied for 27th in the nation in rookie scoring with 0.58 points per game, and leads the Orange with four goals and three assists this season.
Lindenwood Gains Admission To College Hockey America
Robert DeGregorio, Commissioner for College Hockey America, Inc. (CHA), announced on Nov. 11 that Lindenwood has been officially admitted into the CHA beginning with the 2012-13 season.
“The CHA membership was very happy when we received the formal letter of applications from Lindenwood University,” stated Commissioner DeGregorio. “The CHA directors voted unanimously to proceed with the application process and as a result I scheduled an official visit at Lindenwood University on October 28 and 29, 2011.”
Lindenwood is in the process of moving all of its athletic teams from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. Its women's hockey program will compete at the Division I level. Lindenwood, along with fellow CHA newcomer Penn State, will begin league play in 2012-13.
