LAST WEEK IN REVIEW:
The Orange rallied for two come-from-behind wins last week in Madison Square Garden to win the NIT Season Tip Off tournament title, first by beating Virginia Tech in the semifinals, then topping the Cardinal in the championship game.
SU trailed the Hokies for the first 27:50 of the game, but a second half surge led by Kris Joseph, #C.J. Fair and Dion Waiters# propelled Syracuse to an 11 point victory, 69-58. Joseph (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Fair (12 points, 10 rebounds) each had double-doubles, while Waiters scored all of his 11 points in the second half.
Down by seven with just over four minutes remaining against Stanford, the Orange stormed back with an 18-5 run to close the contest and defeat the Cardinal, 69-63.
Tournament MVP Kris Joseph scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half and the Orange connected on its final six field goal attempts to secure the victory. Fair and Waiters were also named to the all-tournament team.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
Eastern Michigan is 4-2 on the year, and is coming off a loss against Michigan State last Sunday. The Eagles' Darrell Lampley leads the offensive charge, averaging 13.0 points per game and is shooting 41 percent from three point range. Jamell Harris tops EMU's efforts on the boards, grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game.
WELCOMING BACK A FORMER ORANGE:
Former SU assistant coach Rob Murphy is in his first year as head coach at Eastern Michigan. Murphy served under Jim Boeheim in Syracuse for seven years before taking the head coaching gig in Ypsilanti this past offseason. While at Syracuse, Murphy helped the Orange to an overall record of 180-67.
Murphy and the Eagles look to improve upon a 9-22 record during the 2010-11 campaign.
THE SERIES:
Syracuse tires to even the series with EMU at one game apiece Tuesday evening. The Eagles won the only contest between the two universities in 1996 at the Carrier Classic, 68-65.
