SYRACUSE, N.Y. – #4/3 Syracuse (7-0) hit a season-high 13 three-point field goals to propel the Orange past Eastern Michigan (4-3), 84-48, on Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome.
SU was 13-of-30 from downtown and had six different players hit from long range. #BrandonTriche# led the charge, scoring all 12 of his points from behind the arch, while Kris Joseph and James Southerland each hit three apiece. Southerland finished with a team-high 19 points. It matched Southerland's career-best, set earlier this season against Albany.
With SU down 21-18 in the first half, the Orange switched to a full-court press, which forced two EMU turnovers and jump-started a 7-0 run. The Orange took a 32-24 lead into halftime and would not trail for the remainder of the game. Southerland scored nine first-half points.
Syracuse opened the second half on a 10-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back three's from Joseph and Triche. From there, the Orange went on to outscore the Eagles by 30 in the second half.
Joseph joined Southerland and Triche in double-figures with 11 points, while Scoop Jardine had eight points and a season-high seven assists. Rakeem Christmas tallied six points, including a thunderous alley-oop, and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
EMU's Darrell Lampley led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting. He was the only Eagle to reach double digits.
The Orange outscored Eastern Michigan 30-12 in the paint and its bench outscored EMU by 36, 43-7.
SU is back in action on Friday night against the #10/9 Florida Gators, as part of the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome and will be televised by ESPN.
