SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In its final preparation for the 2011-12 campaign, No. 5 Syracuse hosts the College of St. Rose in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
Tickets for Tuesday's exhibition game are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). Fans not in attendance can watch the game live on Time Warner Sports in the Syracuse area or listen to the action via the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). The video and audio streams of the broadcast will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
CAL-STATE LA REWIND
The Orange opened its preseason schedule with a 79-49 victory against Cal-State LA on Nov. 1. After leading by seven at halftime, SU used a 16-5 scoring run in the second half to break open the game as it cruised to the 30-point victory.
Sophomore Fab Melo scored a team-high 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. He also had two blocks and a steal in 17 minutes of action.
Senior Kris Joseph and sophomore Dion Waiters also reached double figures in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Scoop Jardine added nine points and dished out a game-high seven assists.
Several newcomers took the court for the first time as members of the Orange. Rakeem Christmas was part of the starting five. He tallied five points, six rebounds and three blocks. Michael Carter-Williams and Trevor Cooney came off the bench for SU. Carter-Williams recorded six points, two rebounds, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot, while Cooney had seven points and one rebound.
SCOUTING THE COLLEGE OF ST. ROSE
The College of St. Rose is listed in the nation's top 20 in three separate NCAA Division II national preseason polls. The Golden Knights are ranked No. 10 by Division II Bulleting, No. 12 by Basketball Times and No. 20 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Senior guard Rob Gutierrez is preseason All-America pick after earned Northeast-10 all-conference honors last season. He averaged 17.9 points per game and reached double figures in scoring in 28 of 30 contests in 2010-11.
The Golden Knights are led by head coach Brian Beaury, who is in his 26th year at the helm of the program. Beaury has guided the College of St. Rose to 12 NCAA Tournament bids in the last 20 years.
