TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Syracuse (5-0) opened the Bama Bash with a 4-3 win against Texas San Antonio (2-4) on Friday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium. Junior Lisaira Daniels sealed the victory with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, helping the Orange to extend its program-best season-opening win streak.
Sophomore pitcher Stacy Kuwik earned her first victory of the season, entering in relief and shutting out the Roadrunners while allowing only one hit in 2.0 innings. Junior hurler Jenna Caira received a no-decision in the contest, striking out eight in 5.0 innings.
Freshman third baseman Jasmine Watson led the Orange offensively, going 2-for-3 with her first career double while Daniels was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and the game-winning RBI. Junior catcher Lacey Kohl was 1-for-3 with her second home run of the season to extend her hit streak to five games.
Syracuse jumped out to an early lead as Daniels reached on a throwing error and advanced to second on the play. An error by the first baseman allowed Kohl aboard while the speedy Daniels rounded third and crossed the plate, 1-0.
The Roadrunners plated a run off two hits in the top of the third to even the score, 1-1, and pulled ahead with a pair of runs off two hits in the top of the fourth, 3-1.
The Orange leveled the playing field in the bottom of the fifth as Daniels hit a two-out single up the middle and Kohl homered to right center, 3-3.
SU sealed the win in walk-off fashion as junior second baseman Stephanie Watts led off the inning with a double to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Daniels sealed the victory with a one-out single up the middle, scoring Watts, 4-3.
Syracuse returns to the field to rematch the BIG EAST Championship Final against Louisville at 2 p.m. ET
