TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Syracuse (6-1) had its program-best win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to 7/3 Alabama (8-0) on day two of the Bama Bash at Rhoads Stadium. Senior Rachel Helman led the Orange offensively, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Junior pitcher Jenna Caira pitched the complete game for the Orange, allowing only four earned runs while striking out five through 5.0 innings.
The Crimson Tide struck early, scoring three runs in the top of the first and adding to its lead with a pair in the top of the third. A four-run top of the fourth gave Alabama a nine-run cushion which it carried through the bottom of the fifth.
Kelsi Dunne earned her fourth win of the season in the circle for the Tide, shutting out the Orange while striking out 13 in 5.0 innings. Courtney Conley led Alabama offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Syracuse rematches with Texas San Antonio in game four of the Bama Bash at 7 p.m. ET and squares off against the Crimson Tide again on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
