WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior Scoop Jardine scored 17 points and dished out seven assists to lead No. 17/20 Syracuse to a 58-51 victory against No. 11/11 Georgetown on Saturday, February 26 in the Verizon Center. Jardine sparked the Orange (24-6, 11-6) on an 11-1 scoring run late in the second half that held off the Hoyas' (21-8, 10-7) comeback attempt.
It marks the sixth time this season Syracuse has defeated a ranked opponent, tying Texas for the most wins against ranked teams in the nation.
Senior Rick Jackson finished with 12 points and led the Orange on the boards with seven rebounds. Sophomore Brandon Triche added nine points, including a 6-for-6 effort from the free-throw line. Triche has now made 27 consecutive free throw attempts, dating back to Syracuse's first game against Georgetown on Feb. 9.
After Georgetown scored the first basket of the second half, junior Kris Joseph and Jackson registered field goals to give Syracuse its largest lead of the day, 37-25, at the 17:21 mark. Jason Clark hit back-to-back three-pointers to spark Georgetown on a 10-1 scoring run that brought the Hoyas to within three at 38-35 with 14:04 remaining. The Orange led, 43-38, before Georgetown scored seven unanswered points to take a 45-43 lead with 10:03 remaining. It was the Hoyas first lead since they were ahead 2-0 to start the game.
Syracuse controlled the next seven minutes, holding Georgetown without a field goal while outscoring the Hoyas, 11-1. Jardine tied the score with a basket at the 9:03 mark and Jackson gave the Orange the lead for good with his basket with 6:54 remaining. After a Georgetown free throw, Jardine scored five straight points and Triche hit two free throws to extend Syracuse's lead to 54-46 with 3:57 on the clock.
The Hoyas wouldn't go away, scoring the game's next five points to cut the lead to 54-51 with 1:23 to play. The Orange missed an opportunity to increase the advantage when Jardine missed the front end of a one-and-one from the free throw line with 31 seconds on the clock. Georgetown had a chance to tie the score, but Jason Clark's three-point attempt was blocked by Joseph. In the final 23 seconds, the Hoyas fouled Triche twice and he was a perfect 4-for-4 to seal the victory for the Orange against its long-time rival.
Jardine scored Syracuse's first five points, helping the Orange to an early 10-5 lead. The two teams traded baskets before Dion Waiters hit a three-pointer from the left side to give SU a six-point advantage at 15-9. After the Hoyas trimmed Syracuse's lead to 17-16, the Orange responded with a 7-1 scoring run to increase its advantage to 24-17 with 4:38 remaining. Jackson had three points during the run, which also included a slam dunk by freshman Fab Melo.
Georgetown recorded the next four points, cutting the Orange's lead to 24-21, but James Southerland's put back on a missed shot gave the Orange a five-point advantage. The teams traded baskets before Southerland hit back-to-back field goals, including a three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to give SU its largest lead of the first half, as Syracuse went into the locker room at halftime up 33-23.
Southerland scored nine points, all in the first half, and Jardine and freshman #C.J. Fair# pulled down four rebounds apiece. Austin Freeman finished with 16 points to lead Georgetown.

Georgetown came into the game leading the BIG EAST in field-goal percentage, hitting 48.9 percent of its shots.
