SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Isabel Menard (Ottawa, Ontario) of the Orange women's ice hockey team and senior Rick Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.), are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 28, 2011.
Menard has played in 31 games this season, tallying 17 goals and 24 assists as an assistant-captain. She currently ranks 24th in the nation and sixth in the CHA in points per game, averaging 1.33 per outing. Menard was recently nominated for the Patty Kazmaier Award, given annually to the nation's top player in Division I women's hockey. She has been named CHA Player of the Week on two occasions this season and conference Player of the Month in November.
Menard is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. Syracuse will host the 2011 CHA Tournament from March 3-5 at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange will take on Niagara in the semifinal round on March 4 at 7 p.m.
Jackson, a member of the men's basketball team, is averaging a double-double this season with 13.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Jackson currently leads the BIG EAST in rebounds and ranks eighth in the nation. He was named to the Wooden Award Mid-Season Top 30 and to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on five occasions this season. Against St. John's, he became the 54th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Jackson, a sociology major, and the Orange will take on DePaul in SU's final regular-season game on Saturday, March 5. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
