Orange Faces Sycamores in NCAA Tournament Friday Night

CLEVELAND, Ohio – No. 12/14 Syracuse will begin play in the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament against Indiana State on Friday, March 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The Orange, which finished the regular season with a mark of 26-7, is the No. 3 seed in the East Region. The Sycamores earned an automatic bid by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. ISU was 20-13 during the regular season and is the No. 14 seed.
Fans can listen to the game live on the Syracuse Sports Radio Network in the Syracuse area.
ORANGE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Syracuse is making its 34th appearance in the NCAA Tournament … The Orange has an all-time record of 52-33 (.612) in the national tournament … Syracuse advanced to the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons … The Orange played in Cleveland in the 2000 NCAA Tournament. Syracuse won its first-and second-round games that season.
FAN'S GUIDE TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Fans that are traveling to Cleveland to cheer on Syracuse are invited to an Orange Pre-Game Event at Harry Buffalo at 2120 East 4th Street in downtown Cleveland on Friday. Harry Buffalo is within walking distance to the Quicken Loans Arena.
Festivities begin at 7 p.m. The event is open to all Orange fans – tickets to the game are not required.
Syracuse's flagship station, TK99, will broadcast live from Cleveland from 4 – 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
While visiting Cleveland, Orange fans can receive a $2 discount off a one-day adult admission ticket at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans either need to show their “fan apparel” or game ticket to receive the discount. One ticket/apparel item is required for each discounted adult admission.
Alumni who will not be making the trip to Cleveland can visit the following calendar to find information about events being held throughout the country.

Syracuse earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after finishing the regular season with a record of 26-7. The Orange finished in a tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST with a 12-6 mark in conference play.
Senior Rick Jackson was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the NABC All-District Second Team and was a Yahoo! Sports honorable mention All-American. He posted 17 double-doubles in 2010-11 and became just the fifth player in school history to record at least 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 200 blocked shots. He is averaging 13.0 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
Junior Kris Joseph led the Orange in scoring during the regular season, averaging 14.4 points per game. Joseph was voted to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. Junior Scoop Jardine was an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention pick after leading the team in assists (190) and averaging 12.8 points per game.
Head coach Jim Boeheim is in his 35th season at the helm of the Syracuse program. He has guided the Orange to a record of 855-299. During his tenure, Syracuse has a record of 44-26 in NCAA Tournament games.
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
Indiana State earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Sycamores, which will be making its fourth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, enter Friday's game with a record of 20-13.
ISU features a balanced scoring attack, led by Dwayne Latham's 11.0 points per game. He is the only Sycamore averaging double figures in scoring. Carl Richard is posting 9.8 points per game, while Jake Odum is right behind with a 9.4 per game average. Richard leads the team in rebounding (6.6 rpg), and Odum ranks first on the squad in assists (133).
Head coach Greg Lansing is in his first year at Indiana State. Previously, Lansing spent the past eight seasons as an assistant coach on the Sycamores' staff, including the last three as associate head coach.
