ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior Kelsey Rubeor took first place in the heptathlon event at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational on Friday with a personal best 5,337 points. She finished first in five out of seven events during Thursday and Friday's competition.
Rubeor took first in the shot put (12.65m), high jump (1.72m), 200-meter dash (25.81), long jump (5.80m) and javelin (42.97m). Her marks in all events except the shot put and high jump were personal bests. She also took second in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:32.86 and third in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.53 seconds.
In the first meet of the outdoor season, the Murrieta Valley, Calif. native qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships in the high jump, long jump and javelin. She also qualified for ECAC competition in the heptathlon.
Rubeor has met the NCAA qualifying standards for the heptathlon during each of the last three seasons. The top-16 athletes in that event will advance to compete at the 2011 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa in June.
Junior Ieva Staponkute and senior Sham Lewis also joined Rubeor in South Carolina. Staponkute took second place in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.75 meters. The Klaipeda, Lithuania native met the qualifying marks for both the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. Lewis crossed the finish line in seventh place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.46 seconds.
