SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the first time in the program's history, the Syracuse University softball team is nationally ranked. The Orange is ranked 25th in this week's USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll. Syracuse, which earned 27 votes in the poll, is off to the best start in school history with a 16-3 record and has won nine of its last 10 games, including the last four.
“It was a matter of time, growing up and maturing. The way I have seen our team play, this first part of the season, they have matured so much,” head coach Leigh Ross said. “They are becoming that team. It was about time; we are starting to mature and doing what I thought we could do all along.”
The Orange, which is the only BIG EAST team in the nationally rankings, returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 12 at 11:30 a.m. when its takes on Virginia at the UVA Spring Break Invitational.
The USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll is voted on by NCAA Division I head coaches, one representing each conference.
