SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Juniors Lisaira Daniels (Tampa, Fla.) of the Orange softball team and Dan Vaughan (Gibsonia, Pa.), a member of the football team, are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 11, 2011.
Daniels helped Syracuse move into the national rankings for the first time in program history earlier this season after the Orange got off to its best start in school history at 16-3. She is third on the team in batting average at .333 and leads the squad with 38 hits. Last season she earned NFCA All-Region accolades and was named an All-BIG EAST second team honoree.
Daniels, a public health major, and the Orange will welcome Cornell to the Skytop Softball Stadium on April 14 at 4:30 p.m. and take on Villanova in a BIG EAST double header on April 16 and 17.
Vaughan has played on special teams in every game during each of the last two seasons. Off the field, he is an active participant in the 'Cuse Cares Community Service Program. He was named to the 2009 and 2010 BIG EAST All-Academic Team and has earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll distinction during each semester.
Vaughan, a finance major, and the Orange will participate in the Spring Game, presented by Empower Federal Credit Union, on April 16 at 1 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. Admission and parking for the game are free. Fans should enter the Carrier Dome through the Dome's lower level gates (A,B,C,D,E and F). The event will be broadcast on 97.7 FM Syracuse.
