Former Syracuse cross country and track and field runner Maegan Krifchin finished fourth amongst women's competitors at the 34th Annual Utica Boilermaker 15K Road Race last weekend. Krifchin finished 62nd overall with a time of 52:23, and was the first American woman to cross the finish line. This year's Boilermaker attracted over 11,000 runners from around the world, and has been named as the most competitive 15K road race in the world by Analytical Distance Runner.
During her four years with the Orange, Krifchin rewrote the SU record book by setting school marks during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The Bellmore, N.Y. native currently owns four Syracuse track and field records, including the outdoor mark in the 1500-meter run (4:22.65), which she set during her senior season. She also holds the Orange record in the indoor 1000-meter run with a time of 2:50.54 during her sophomore campaign, two seconds faster than the previous mark held by Kathleen Sanborn in 2006. Krifchin burst onto the scene in her freshman season as part of the 4x800-meter relay teams that set the SU indoor and outdoor records with times of 9:02.61 and 8:59.31, respectively.
In addition to running in numerous BIG EAST, ECAC and NCAA competitions during her career, Krifchin was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her four years with the Orange.
