STORRS, Conn. – Syracuse finishes up a long month of road games with its BIG EAST opener against Connecticut in Storrs, Ct. The Orange faces the Huskies on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. Syracuse enters the game with a 1-2-3 record, while Connecticut is 3-3-0.
THE SERIES
This is the 17th time the Orange will face Connecticut on the soccer pitch, more than any other opponent in Syracuse history. The Huskies lead the all-time series 16-0. Connecticut recently competed at the Wake Forest Tournament where it defeated Wake Forest, 2-1, and before a 1-0 loss by Virginia Tech. Connecticut rebounded by defeating Boston University, 3-0, at home. In their last game, the Huskies traveled to Cambridge, Mass. where they lost to Harvard, 2-1.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
The Orange played in the Fairfield University 20th Anniversary Invitational last weekend. Syracuse finished the tournament 0-0-2, tying Fairfield, 0-0, and Central Connecticut 2-2. The Orange defense and sophomore Rachel Blum shut out the Fairfield Stags. Juniors Jenna Rickan and Tina Romagnuolo scored against Central Connecticut with first career assists from both Blum and junior Skylar Sabbag.
BLUM HONORED
Sophomore Rachel Blum was one of three members of the Orange named to the Fairfield University 20th Anniversary Invitational All-Tournament team for her play against the host Stags and Central Connecticut. Blum and the Syracuse defense shutout Fairfield, successfully defending against 11 shots and two corner kicks. She recorded her first career assist in the Orange's 2-2 tie against Central Connecticut.
