SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Syracuse goes for its second consecutive victory when it faces Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Syracuse enters the game with a 3-4-3 record, 2-2 in the BIG EAST, while Seton Hall is 7-2-2 overall, 3-1 in conference action.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Seton Hall will meet for the 14th time at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J. on Friday. The Orange leads the all-time series, 7-6-1. SU has faced the Pirates each year since the program's inception except 2002. The last seven meetings between the teams have been decided by one goal or fewer, with SU's last win coming in a 2-1 victory against SHU in 2008. Seton Hall just capped off a three-game road trip with a win against Pittsburgh. The Pirates are 3-1 in the BIG EAST and are tied for first in the National Division.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Katlyn Ritter leads the scoring charge for the Pirates with a team-best six goals and 12 points. Taylor Wilson has recorded four assists, which leads the team, as well as four goals. Ritter and Wilson are tied for second in the BIG EAST with three game-winning goals apiece. Jennifer Pettigrew and Elizabeth Bond have both started in goal for Seton Hall. The duo ranks first and second, respectively, in save percentage among BIG EAST goalkeepers. Bond has posted a 4-1-1 record with three shutouts, while Pettigrew has a 3-1-1 record with two shutouts.
SYRACUSE IN CLOSE AFFAIRS
Syracuse's matches this season have not been for the faint of heart as nine of its 10 games have been decided by a goal or less. The only exception was the Orange's 3-1 setback against Georgetown last Friday. All three of Syracuse's victories in 2011 have been by 1-0 scores. The Orange has played to two 0-0 ties. SU netted a season-best two goals in a 2-2 tie against Central Connecticut.
HUNSBERGER LEADS ORANGE TO VICTORY
Freshman Megan Hunsberger scored her first career goal in the 56th minute to give Syracuse a 1-0 victory against Villanova last weekend. She gathered the ball just past midfield and possessed it while fighting off a defender down the left flank. She entered the box and lifted the ball by Villanova goalkeeper Jami Kranich into the right side netting for the game-winning goal. Hunsberger, who is the fourth member of the Orange to record her first career goal this season, has played in eight games in 2011, making one start.
OFFENSE FEATURES BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
Opposing defenses have not been able to focus on one member of the Orange offense as six players have scored goals this season, including four who found the back of the net for the first time in their careers. Junior Tina Romagnuolo is the only player with more than one goal.
