SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University men's rowing team will make their fall season debut Sunday, October 21 at the Head of the Charles Regatta. The Orange will compete in the Men's Championship Eight race at 2:55 p.m.
The Orange will be led by seniors, Nick Pickard, Tyler Toporowski, Kyle Rogers and Mason Leasure. Joining the four seniors will be juniors Mackenzie Zink, Jacob Martens and Elizabeth Abraham and sophomores Patrick O'Shaughnessy-Hunter and Cameron Bierwith.
US Olympic team member and 2011 Syracuse alum Mike Gennaro will also make an appearance at the race competing with his fellow U.S. Men's Eight London Olympians against his alma mater in the Champ 8.
The Head of the Charles, the world's largest two-day rowing event, was first held on October 16, 1965. "Head" races, a class of regattas, are generally three miles long-boats race against each other and the clock, starting sequentially approximately fifteen seconds apart. Winners of each race receive the honorary title of "Head of the River" or, in this case, "Head of the Charles." The regatta will feature over 9,000 prominent athletes over the 2-day competition in Cambridge, Mass.
The Orange continues its fall schedule next weekend, Sunday, October 28 at Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J.
