Orange Posts 2-1 Win at Union

After being down, 1-0, five minutes into the game, the Orange tallied two goals to post a 2-1 win at Union (2-5-0). Both sophomore forward Allie LaCombe and senior defenseman Jacquie Greco each scored goals in the Orange (5-4-0, 2-0-0 CHA) win. Junior goaltender Kallie Billadeau recorded 27 saves against the Dutchwomen.
"It was a back and forth game for the most part of the night," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Allie LaCombe picked a nice time to get her first of the year. Our PK did a great job of killing off a five minute major and two late penalties to seasl the win."

Kathryn Tomaselli put the Dutchwomen on the scoreboard early, scoring her second goal of the season 5:02 into the game. Union outshot the Orange 12-8 in the first period.Â

At 17:56, junior Margot Scharfe received the puck from Caitlin Roach. Scharfe found Greco who was able to beat Shenae Lundberg to tie up the game. It was Greco's second goal this season.

For the first time all season, the second period would remain scoreless for Syracuse. Union couldn't find the back of the net either, keeping the score tied at 1-1.

Three minutes into the third period was when SU would complete its two goal comeback. LaCombe was fed the puck by Akane Hosoyamada. LaCome scored the eventual game-winner and her first goal of the season at 3:07. Â

SU held the advantage in shots, 31-28, at Union. This was the eighth game this season that the Orange outshot its opponent. Â Shenae Lundberg registered 29 saves for the Dutchwomen.

Orange Slices: This is the first win this season for Syracuse that has not been a shutout... The Orange went 0-for-4 on the power play at Union... SU had a season-high six penalties for 23 minutes at Union, but the penalty killing unit was able to hold the Dutchwomen to 0-for-5 on the power play... Â Akane Hosoyamada has notched three points in two games after having the primary assist on Allie LaCombe's game-winning goal... Allie LaCombe's third period tally was her first goal this season... Caitlin Roach has a team-high six assists... This is the first time this season that the Orange have not scored at least one goal in the second period.
