2013 Schedule
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's lacrosse team, the national runner-up last season, will take on each of the other three Final Four squads in 2013. In addition, the Orange will play in an NFL venue for the second consecutive year.
Syracuse is ranked No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook's preseason poll. The Orange will face five of the remaining top 10 teams and nine of the top 20. Seven of SU's opponents participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
"We like to play one of the toughest schedules in the country," said head coach Gary Gait. "It has helped us get to where we are. It challenges the players every game."
Syracuse opens the 2013 campaign at Jacksonville on Jan. 13. Following an exhibition game against Team USA on Jan. 26, the Orange takes on Maryland, which was a national semifinalist last season, in the Carrier Dome on Feb. 17. Syracuse hosts Virginia on Feb. 24 before facing Florida on March 2 in Sun Life Stadium, home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins. It will be a rematch of the 2012 semifinals in which SU overcame a seven-goal deficit to defeat the Gators, 14-13 in double overtime.
After a contest at Towson (March 9), the Orange hosts Connecticut on March 22 in its BIG EAST opener. Syracuse begins a stretch of four consecutive road games when it plays at Boston College on Mar. 27. The Orange travels to Evanston, Ill, on March 31 to take on defending national champion Northwestern. The Wildcats defeated SU, 8-6, in the national championship game last season.
Syracuse will play at Villanova (April 5) and Rutgers (April 7) before returning to the Carrier Dome for five consecutive games against Louisville (April 12), Cincinnati (April 14), Cornell (April 16), Notre Dame (April 19) and Marquette (April 21). The Orange ends the regular season at Loyola on April 26 and at Georgetown on April 28.
The top four teams in the BIG EAST standings advance to the conference tournament, which will be played at Georgetown on May 2 and 4. The NCAA Tournament, which has expanded to 26 teams this season, begins with first- and second-round games on May 10 and 12. Villanova will host the national semifinals and finals on May 24 and 26.
