SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- After a week off, No. 9/7 Syracuse returns to the court on Saturday, Dec. 29 to take on Alcorn State in the Carrier Dome. The contest, which is SU's fourth in the Chevrolet Gotham Classic, tips off at 7 p.m. The Orange enters the game with a 10-1 record while the Braves are 2-11.
Tickets for Saturday's game are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). The game will be broadcast on Time Warner Sports Cable and SNY. Fans not in attendance can listen to the action on the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). Live video and audio will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse had its 10-game winning streak snapped in an 83-79 setback against Temple on Saturday, Dec. 22 in Madison Square Garden. Junior C.J. Fair led SU with a career-high 25 points.
The Orange led by as many as 10 in the first half but held just a two-point advantage at 40-38 at intermission. The Owls used a 10-1 scoring run to start the second half to build a seven-point lead at 48-41.
Temple held a 70-62 lead but the Orange pulled within two at 74-72 after a free throw by Fair and basket by junior Baye Moussa Keita with 2:36 remaining. SU cut the lead to 74-73 but could not capitalize on a three-point attempt from senior Brandon Triche that would have given Syracuse the lead. The Owls responded with six free throws as it held on for the victory.
Fair was 8-for-12 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Triche finished with 17 points, while sophomore Michael Carter-Williams had 13. Keita added 12 points, and senior James Southerland paced the Orange on the boards with nine, which tied his career high.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES
Alcorn State enters Saturday's game with a 2-12 overall record, which includes a seven-game losing streak and.
The Braves are led by Marquiz Baker, who scored a season-high 30 points in his last contest against Canisius. Leantwan Luckett and Anthony Nieves are also averaging in double figures.
Luther Riley is in his second year at the helm of the Alcorn State program. He guided the Braves to a 10-20 mark last season.
THE SERIES
Saturday's game marks the second meeting between the two schools. Syracuse defeated Alcorn State, 110-77, on Dec. 3, 1982 in the only other game between the squads.
