Orange Hosts Monmouth Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 4/4 Syracuse will play its third game this week and second in a three-day span when it hosts Monmouth in the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Orange enters the contest with a 7-0 mark, while the Hawks are 5-4.
Tickets for Saturday's game are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). The game will be broadcast on Time Warner Sports Cable and SNY. Fans not in attendance can listen to the action on the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). Live video and audio will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
SPORTS MANAGEMENT AUCTION SET FOR SATURDAY
The SU Sports Management (SPM) Club's eighth annual Charity Sports Auction will take place in the backcourt prior to Saturday's game. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Special Olympics of New York. Bidding will take place in the backcourt area during the game. Items up for auction include sports memorabilia, hands-on experiences, electronics, jewelry and much more. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and fans may enter through Gates A, B, C, and E to access the special event. All other gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse extended its home-court winning streak to 27 with an 84-53 victory against Long Beach State on Thursday, Dec. 6 in the Carrier Dome. Junior C.J. Fair led the Orange with his second double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
SU jumped out to a 12-point lead six minutes into the game, but Long Beach State fought back and Peter Pappageorge's three-pointer at the 7:32 mark brought the 49ers within six at 25-19. The Orange dominated the rest of the half and led 49-29 at halftime.
The Orange continued to pull away after intermission. A pair of Rakeem Christmas free throws with 4:36 remaining gave Syracuse its largest lead of the game of 34 points as it went on to record the 31-point victory.
Sophomore Michael Carter-Williams finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double. Christmas, senior Brandon Triche and redshirt freshman Trevor Cooney also scored 11 points apiece.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Monmouth enters Saturday's game with a 5-4 record. The Hawks had their four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday in an 85-66 loss to Navy.
Sophomore Andrew Nicholas paces the Monmouth offense, averaging 15.7 points per game, while senior Ed Waite leads the team in rebounds, pulling in 5.8 per game.
King Rice is in his second in his season as head coach, becoming the fifth head coach in the history of the Monmouth men's basketball program. The North Carolina graduate and Binghamton, N.Y. native served as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt for six seasons prior to taking over the helm of the Hawks' program.
THE SERIES
Saturday's game marks the first meeting between Syracuse and Monmouth.
