Matthew Callanan of the men's track & field team and Jill Cammett from the women's lacrosse team are the Syracuse University Scholar Athletes of the Week for February 20, 2012.
Callanan (Mansfield, Mass.) is a senior dual majoring in communication and rhetorical studies and psychology. He has been named to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times and earned selection to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each of the past two seasons.
On the track this season for the Orange, Callanan has competed in the 60-meter hurdles. At the Kane Invitational at Cornell, he finished sixth in the event with a time of 8.36 seconds, which qualified him for the BIG EAST Championships.
Cammett (Norwell, Mass.) is a senior co-captain majoring in advertising and psychology. She is a six-time member of the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll and has been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team three times.
Cammett played in every game for the Orange last season, starting 15 and finishing the season with one assist. She tied career highs with three ground balls and two caused turnovers against Rutgers.
The men's track team will be off until March 3-4 when the Orange travels to Boston, Mass. for the IC4A Championship as well as the Columbia Last Chance meet in New York. The women's lacrosse team opens the season tomorrow afternoon against Boston College at 4:00 p.m.
