Orange Hits the Road to Take on Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 12/12 Syracuse faces a ranked opponent for the second consecutive game when it goes on the road for the first time this season to face No. 10/6 Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 26. Opening draw is set for 12 p.m. The Orange is coming off a 23-12 victory against Boston College in its season opener, while the Cavaliers are 2-0 this season.
The game will be broadcast live on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area. Live audio for the matchup will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
ORANGE ON THE DRAW
Syracuse held a decisive 27-10 advantage on draw controls in its season-opening victory against Boston College. Freshman Kailah Kempney recorded 10 draw controls, which rank second on the Orange's single-game record list. Last season, SU's opponents won 229 draw controls to 203 for the Orange.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Sophomore Alyssa Murray set a single-game school record with eight goals to lead the Orange to a 23-12 victory against No. 13/8 Boston College on Tuesday, Feb. 21. It marked the fifth consecutive year that Syracuse has won its season opener.
Syracuse never trailed in the game and used a 4-0 scoring run to take a 6-2 lead. The Orange extended its lead to 9-4, but Boston College netted two of the final three goals of the half to cut the lead to 10-6 at halftime.
The Eagles scored the first goal of the second half to bring the deficit to three at 10-7, but that was as close as Boston College would get. Freshman Devon Collins started the Orange on a 4-0 scoring run that put the game out of reach.
Murray finished with 10 points, which tie her for fourth on SU's single-game record list. Freshman Kailah Kempney recorded five goals and an assist, while junior Michelle Tumolo posted six points on three goals and three assists.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia has opened the season with back-to-back wins at home against No. 7/13 Loyola and Richmond.
Josie Owen leads the Cavaliers in scoring this season with 10 points on three goals and a team-high seven assists. Ainsley Baker is Virginia's leading goal scorer with six. Kim Kolarik has played every minute in goal for UVa this season and has a 9.00 goals-against average and a .514 save percentage.
Julie Myers is in her 18th season at Virginia. She guided the Cavaliers to the 2004 national championship and has an all-time record of 245-92 (.727).
THE SERIES
Virginia leads the all-time series against Syracuse, 10-3. The Cavaliers have won seven consecutive games against the Orange, including last year's contest at the Carrier Dome.
