Jarret Eaton Has His Eyes On The Prize

With every race, Jarret Eaton's name is hurtling into record books and onto award plaques. On Monday, Eaton earned the prestigious Northeast Regional Male Track Athlete of the Year honor for the second time in his career (he also won in 2010). A two-time BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week, Eaton was also named to the Bowerman Award Watch List, which is awarded annually to the nation's top male and female track & field athletes, on February 1.
Eaton captured the BIG EAST Championship in the 60-meter hurdles on Feb. 18-19 at the Armory in New York City with a meet-record time of 7.70. But that time was actually slow for Eaton this season.
Eaton began the season by setting a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles when he ran a 7.61 and took first place at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. With that time, Eaton automatically qualified for the BIG EAST, IC4A, and NCAA Championships. He has continued, however, to set the bar to heights that only he can hurdle.
His 7.49 time in the 60-meter hurdles at the Penn State Invitational earlier this season, not only is the fastest time in the nation but is also the fifth-fastest time in the world this season and the second fastest collegiate time ever recorded.
As he prepares for the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend, Eaton will look to build off his previous experience at the event: he finished 16th with a time of 7.86 in the preliminaries of the NCAA Championship as a junior in 2010, and he finished with a time of 7.92 in 2009.
Now, Eaton hopes to continue his dominance and clear the final hurdle of the season with one more record-setting finish.
