SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Jarret Eaton and Flings Owusu-Agyapong will compete for Syracuse's first NCAA Indoor Individual Championship this weekend as the duo heads to Nampa, Idaho for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Jacksons Indoor Track this weekend. Eaton will run in his preliminary race on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. while Owusu-Agyapong is slated to run at 6:30 p.m.

Eaton, who was named the United States Track & Field and Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Region Male Track Athlete of the Year on Monday, ran the fastest 60-meter hurdle time in the nation this season at 7.49 seconds. The 2012 BIG EAST Champion in the same event, Eaton has been named the BIG EAST Male Track Athlete of the Week twice this season, and is on the Bowerman Award Watch List, an award given annually to the nation's top male and female track and field athletes.
The Abington, Pa. will be up against strong competition in Friday's preliminary, running against athletes from Miami, Middle Tennessee State, LSU and two Kansas State competitors. Eaton will also face a familiar face in Cincinnati's Terrence Somerville in the prelim, who finished 0.05 seconds behind Eaton at the BIG EAST Championships in February.
Competing in the other heat of the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries is last year's champion Andrew Riley of Illinois, who ran a 7.58 second time in 2011. The meet record for the event is 7.51 seconds, set by Tennessee's Aries Merritt in 2006.
Owusu-Agyapong is one of 18 athletes running in the 60-meter dash, and will run in the second heat against athletes from Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, UCF and Clemson in her prelim. Owusu-Agyapong, winner of the BIG EAST Championship earlier this season, is the only conference representative in the event. Her best time this season was set at the Penn State National Invitational at 7.34 seconds. The meet record is 7.09 seconds, set by South Carolina's Lakya Brookins last season.
