PHILADELPHIA – Jarret Eaton won his heat in the 110-meter hurdles and Flings Owusu-Agyapong had the eighth fastest time of the day in the 100-meter dash to lead the Syracuse track and field team on the second day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Eaton's time of 13.78 seconds was the fifth fastest of the day in his event, and is just 0.03 seconds behind Eaton's season high. Illinois' Andrew Riley and LSU's Barrett Nugent, both of whom raced against Eaton in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championship in March, claimed the top-two spots in the preliminary heats, respectively.
Owusu-Agyapong finished third in her heat with a time of 11.71 seconds, which ties her season high set at the Tiger Track Classic. She trailed just behind Auburn's Kai Selvon (11.43) and Miami's Tarika Williams (11.70).
Also competing on Friday was senior Ieva Staponkute, who finished fifth overall in the triple jump with a leap of 11.99-meters.
Eaton will run in the Championship race on Saturday afternoon at 3:20 p.m., while Owusu-Agyapong will compete in her final race at 3:35 p.m.
