For us six seniors, this weekend's series against USF is something we've been talking about since August. Senior day itself is monumental enough, but the fact that we are facing a top ranked team in the country just adds to the excitement and anticipation. Last year, we got swept by USF and we are now looking to even the score.
It is going to be bittersweet knowing that these games this weekend will be the last games the six of us play on the SU field together, but that thought is going to be the last thing on our mind when it's game time. This time of the year is always hectic with school winding down and family coming to visit. The key for some big wins this weekend is to focus on doing our jobs on the field and not all the excitement going on around us, until after the game.
Experiencing the first senior day as freshmen really put our playing careers in perspective. Because we have such a big class, we knew that we wanted to have a big impact on this program by the time it was our own senior day. In the three years since freshman year, we as a class have done many good things on the field. And although senior day is a reflection on all of those things, it's also a reminder that it doesn't have to stop now. The role of the seniors is to take the team and lead them as far as we possibly can. And that is our goal. It starts this weekend, with USF.
There are three sections of the softball season; preseason, regular-season and postseason. This weekend's series marks the end of the regular-season and the beginning of our last postseason. Every game we play always means something, but these games against USF are the beginning of my favorite part of the season. On my senior day this year, there is no team I'd rather play than USF.
