STARKVILLE, Miss. - Senior pitching ace Jenna Caira was named a Third Team All-American on Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Caira, who was 27-9 in the circle this season, earned All-American for the first time in her career and she is just the second SU player to garner this distinction. Alexis Switenko was a second team honoree in 2006.
"I am honored to be named to this list with all these great players," Caira said. "This has been a goal of mine since I arrived at Syracuse and I can't thank my teammates and coaches enough for helping me through these past four years."
The Toronto native boasted a 1.60 ERA and was named the National Pitcher of the Week twice this year. She pitched to a record of 10-5 against NCAA Tournament teams and led Syracuse to a 1-0 victory against No. 2 Arizona State during the post-season run. It was the first time since 2010 the Sun Devils had been shutout.
Caira threw two no-hitter this season, one against Rutgers and one against USF on Senior Day. Against Connecticut, she became the first pitcher in BIG EAST history to record 1,000 career strikeouts.
She has stamped her name all over the SU record book. Caira is the all-time leader in wins, appearances, starts, strikeouts, shutouts, saves, innings pitched, strikeouts per seven innings and lowest opponents batting average.
"She has earned every award and accolade that has been given to her thoughout her time here at Syracuse," head coach Leigh Ross said. "As good of a pitcher that she is, she is a better person and I couldn't be happier for her."
Pitcher/Clean up hitter Keiliani Ricketts of Oklahoma was named the NFCA National Player of the Year. Click here for the full list of All-Americans.
