2012 Capital One Academic All-America Team | Dupont's Top Performances
SYRACUSE - Syracuse senior distance runner Pat Dupont was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team on Thursday. With a 3.87 cumulative GPA in Music Composition, the Fairport, N.Y. native was also an Academic All-District first-teamer.
Dupont finished 37th at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Nov 21 of last year, leading SU to a 15th place finish overall. He earned All-American honors in back-to-back seasons in 2010 and 2011, becoming the first Orange harrier to do so since Roy Osterhaut in 1952-53.
"Pat was a two-time All-American in cross country," head coach Chris Fox said. "He had his highest finish ever (at the NCAAs) this year, and he put a cap on probably the best cross country career that anybody has ever had at Syracuse. We will miss Pat."
Following his stellar cross country season, Dupont went on to finish 11th in the 5,000-meter run at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship.
In the outdoor track season, Dupont won gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the BIG EAST Championship in a personal-best time of 8:49.40, while also finishing third in the 5,000-meter run with another PR of 14:26.45. He went on to compete in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
The CoSIDA District I First-Team All-Academic honoree and three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selection was the men's track and field team's nominee for the 2012 Doris Soladay Award for excellence in academics, athletics, leadership and service. He was also a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team member and a 7-time SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll member.
