SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange volleyball squad (7-6) will begin the home portion of the schedule this weekend hosting the Binghamton Bearcats (2-12) at 7 p.m. in the Women's Building on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.
LAST WEEKEND:
The Orange went 2-1 last weekend at the Blue and White Classic in Buffalo, N.Y., picking up wins against Hartford and Dartmouth. The only loss of the weekend came against tournament host, Buffalo on the final day of the tournament.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS:
Binghamton is 2-12 in 2012 after dropping all three matches against Baylor, Tulane and UTEP in the Tulane Tournament last weekend. Senior Iva Paraleva, sophomore, Kristin Hovie and junior, Grace Vickers are at the helm of the Bearcat offense, leading the team in kills and hitting percentage. Partaleva leads the trio averaging 3.45 kills per set, after recording a team-high 21 kills against UTEP in the Tulane Tournament.
Binghamton will rely on senior, Alex Roland and junior, Grace Vickers at the net. The two have combined for 82 combined blocks, including 12 solo blocks. Vickers led the Bearcat defense with a team-high 8 blocks against Baylor last weekend.
ORANGE IN THE BIG EAST STATS:
Five Orange student-athletes are currently ranked in three BIG EAST statistical categories. Freshman Silvi Uattara ranks seventh in kills, while also leading the Orange with 126 kills, averaging 3.60 kills per set. Senior Samantha Hinz is fifth in blocks, averaging 1.12 blocks per set while junior Lindsay McCabe is ranked sixth, averaging 1.11 blocks per set. Freshman Monika Salkute is ninth, after totaling five blocks in 2012. Sophomore Emily Betteridge remains at seventh, averaging 9.55 assists per set.
UP NEXT:
Syracuse will travel to Marquette this weekend to participate in the first BIG EAST match of the season on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
